The rapper Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Tyler, has been charged with one count of first-degree rape.
In 2016, the Shreveport Police Sex Crimes Investigators launched an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that took place in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is one of three people in connection with an assault Oct. 22 at a casino in the 300 block of Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway in downtown Shreveport. At the time, Mystikal was in Shreveport-Bossier City for the “Legends of Southern Hip-Hop” concert.
The Shreveport Police Sex Crimes launched an investigation into the assault and – after gathering the victim’s statement, witness testimony and DNA evidence – were able to connect Mystikal to the scene.
26-year-old Averweone Holman was also arrested for also being linked to the case.
Mystikal turned himself into Caddo Correctional Center Monday afternoon, the Shreveport police Public Information Officer said.
Mystikal and Holman were charged with one count each of First Degree Rape. and bond was set at $2 million for each.
An associate of the Mystikal named Tenichia Wafford was also arrested on the charge of accessory after the fact to first-degree rape.
Wafford is suspected of trying to convince the assault victim to drop the charges against Mystikal and Holman. Investigators say Wafford faces a charge of accessory after the fact to first-degree rape. Her bond is set at $200,000.00.
In 2003, Mystikal pleaded guilty to sexual battery following an incident involving his hairstylist. As part of his plea bargain, the rapper was sentenced to six years in prison. He was released in 2010. Mystikal has also faced charges involving domestic abuse and tax evasion.
